Animal Protection

The Pat Wise Animal Shelter has four full-time employees and one temporary employee.  The Animal Protection Director is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all operations of the animal shelter, including supervision of all department personnel. The Director is also responsible for enforcing provisions of the code of ordinances related to animal protection.  

The staff are responsible for maintaining department records, managing the office, dispatching and assigning service calls to field officers, caring for animals held at the shelter, working with pet owners, and the general public and other governmental agencies in the protection of the welfare of domestic animals in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough. Staff is also responsible for enforcing animal protection laws within the Borough, caring for animals held in the shelter, working with pet owners, and the public and other governmental agencies in the protection of the welfare of domestic animals in the Borough.
