Evacuees who need to enter their homes should notify the Ketchikan Emergency Operations Center at 907-228-2383 prior to accessing the areaThe slide area remains unstable. Evacuation zones remain in effect as we await site assessment. Limit driving along Tongass Avenue between First Avenue and Washington Street to prioritize access for emergency and essential personnel.
There will be no activity allowed in the slide area until after the area has been cleared by geologists. State and local geologists will be onsite mid-morning to assess the area for potential secondary slides. A NOAA weather team and representatives from the State Emergency Operations Center will also be on scene today.
The evacuation order remains in effect for homes in the Third Avenue, Second Avenue/Water Street, First Avenue, and White Cliff Avenue between Austin Street and Nadeau Street until further notice.
Road closures include:
*Third Avenue from Library to Washington Street
*1700 Block of Second Avenue/Water Street to Austin Street
*First Avenue from Tongass Avenue to Austin Street
*White Cliff Avenue
The emergency shelter at the Ketchikan High School is fully stocked with supplies, bedding, food, and necessities, and there is ample capacity available. Medical staff are onsite.
