The Ketchikan Gateway Borough’s Ketchikan Airport Access Tunnel (KAAT) proposal has been named one of the Top 16 worldwide in The Boring Company’s Tunnel Vision Challenge. The project envisions a single-lane vehicular tunnel beneath the Tongass Narrows, creating dependable, all-weather access between Ketchikan and Gravina Island. For decades, reliable airport access has been central to our community’s long-term vision. A tunnel solution represents resilience, innovation, and opportunity — strengthening emergency response, supporting economic development, and ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for residents, visitors, and regional partners. Ketchikan’s future depends on bold infrastructure solutions, and this proposal moves that vision forward.
